Hi,

A friend is selling their house and had the well documented PCB problem on their Potterton boiler. The PCB was replaced under warranty by Potterton a couple of years back, but no certificate was supplied by CORGI for this work.

The buyer's solicitors have said that there should be a certificate, however is this true?? The work was clearly not on the gas side, and was carried out under warranty by the manufacturer. Indeed, I thought that certificates are only issued for replacement gas appliances (eg boiler change) and would not be supplied even for servicing and the like?? Is this right??!

As I am sure you are aware, building control is all VERY confusing, not least because each local area seems to have their own way of doing things!

Thanks.

No
It's Drivel.
Tell them they can have that in a letter for £250.

Its usual for the engineer to leave a work sheet saying what was done.

In any case the boiler is probably outside the warranty by now.

Its just another case of a socilitor not understanding what the procedures are and just trying to pretend to be doing ( and charging ) something for his client. The client would be better served by his solicitor getting on quickly with the purchase.

This is nothing to do with building control. All those functions should have been completed when th boiler was installed.
