We are about to put up 36 trellis panels (6ft x 6ft) and 9 lap panels all pressure treated. We want to colour this black or ebony. We just need a stain, no protection, and we don't plan to do it again even though it will fade! Any suggestions for something that we can spray and won't cost as much as the panels!

With your trellis panels being pressure treated your only concern is colour rather than preservation, one of the many UK based paint manufacturers which may be of interest to you is Spectrum Paints in Nottingham who produce a wide variety of paints and stains for the building trade. I believe their telephone number is 0115 963 3555.

 why not just use a water-based fence stain as found by the thousand bucketfuls in every DIY shop in the country?

p.s. if you try to spray trellis, you are of course mostly painting air.

You can use a roller if you don't like brushes.

It will be easier to stain before you fix it up.
