I cannot open a bedroom window. I removed the lockable window handle to reveal the mechanism. The square socket in the mechanism is chewed up and I cannot get it to turn and open the window.I don't see how I can remove the mechanism or open the window. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I usually find that a big flat blade screwdriver inserted into the mech then twisted back and forth does the trick. But if the Mechanism is too far gone it may be a job for your local PVC window specialist.

if you remove the glass from the sash you should be able to force the sash usually opposite way from direction of handle to open it, do not use a screw driver or you will damage the frame too small a surface area contact and will bruise the pvcu. carefully use a large surface chisel ie bolster but do not go at it like a bull in a china shop. if you try when you have removed glass,to pull the sash away from the frame in the middle you may see the mechanism and sprag the sash open then use a screw driver to push the cams. hope this helps.

the idea of removing the glass will give you more flexibility in the sash.
