Just recently my mate has struggled to get hot water through mixer shower(combi boiler fitted). Dont know whether pressure has altered from outside house or due to the cold mains being colder at this time of year. Hot and Cold have both got isolation valves on so ive turned down the cold water side slightly and the shower is working a treat is this option ok or should a pressure reducing/equalising valve be used. Any advice appreciated.

if it works, it works.
you forgot to mention if it is a manual or thermostatic mixer

provided boiler is working to spec, and the lot was installed properly in the first place, incoming pressure and temperature should not make any difference.
The whole point of a thermostatic shower is to compensate for this.

So it could be a problem with the shower. Turning the isolation valve down has worked in giving an hot shower. Water flows freely when either valve is switched off on hot and cold sides but the cold water needs restricting to allow for an hot shower. when both supplies are on fully even on the hottest setting the water is only lukewarm. Cheers
