Hi Guys.

I have a young friend who is wanting to build a brick surround for his moulded pond.

The pond is approx 6ft across in a kidney shape and is a 1000 gallons.
He has zero experience of brick laying or building work (he is 15).

He was going to take it as a challenge on him self to build it (seen as the weight of the water is taken buy the moulded pond).

Is this advaisbale?
whats the estimated cost to get it built?
Is their anything in particular he needs to be careful of?

Is the person who paid for the pond going to pay for the materials and brikie?

That aside what will the wall stand on? grass, soil?

If he does go ahead get the wall built oblong not the same shape as the pool. because its easier, will look better and easier to back fill.

If you were me (and you are not) i would ask his folks can he sink it in the ground and if yes, start digging next spring (ground will be hard now so i really would not bother till then)

Thanks for the quick response breezer.

Lol he paid for th pond. at the moment its stood above ground (un-even) filled with fish and looking like its buckling slolwy on the edges.

I think he will be the one that pays for the materials and brickie. So he wa slooking at options.

One was to dig out a big, sink the pond half, then use the soil around the edges with rock work.

The pond will stand on soil, so will the bricks.

As he is 15 I don't think he can afford a brickie and the bricks, nop idea but cheap andpaid labour do not go in the same sentance.

That leaves the hole idea, which will look better anyway, but like I also said not this time of year, since the ground will be frozen solid, tell him to wait till May then ask again (if he still has it)

thanks breezer.

Now i have to try convince him against it lol.
I know he will definitly have it, he has had the pond about 3 years now. lol

well a few more months wont do any harm then.
tell him to try and dig a hole now just to see.

As its only about 6ft long why not build a "box" from sleepers half the depth of pond. Part set pond in hole, backfill between box & pond with what comes out the hole and then plant it up with a few nice plants.

New sleepers would be best as old ones can be a bit toxic.
