I cannot seem to loosen the valve. What can I do?

as the valve head is worn. Hard to get a grip with anything now

Is the bleed valve a replaceable one ?

i.e. is it part of a big nut.

Cut a slot with a junir eclipse saw and use a screwdriver. Or cut a slot with a Dremel type tool and a mini circular saw.

It is replaceable. It is like a smalle screw with a square (well it was) head.
But to get at it I would need to take the radiator off as it is on
the back of the rad. Would soldering a piece onto the screw work so I wouldn't have to take the damn thing off?

Doubt it.

My house had a similar problem and the previous owner had drilled a small hole on the opposite side. He had then used a self tapper/washer/rubber washer.

I never did it and probably would've took the rad off.

In all fairness though I lived there 6 years and it never gave me any problems. I think it was probably a temporary job that lasted.

I may try the self tapping screw. I will let you know the outcome.
I think just one of those awkward annoying things that crop up
from time to time.
