Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knows of some great online guides to building decking?
I now have the wood I need but have some probably pretty simple questions about putting it together.

1) Beams will be 40cm apart, but how far apart should the noggins be?
2) 3 screws into each end piece, but how many screws into each noggin?

and probably loads more as I go along.... any advice or guides welcome

thanks
chris

1. No hard and fast rules on spacings. Just put a few across the width.
2. Couple of screws, or just nail them.

Agree with wabbitpoo. The noggins are mainly there just to stiffen everything up, so just use a bit of judgement. My joists and noggins are 6"x2" on a 2 mtr span and I alternated between 1 noggin, 2 noggins, 1 noggins etc and its very stiff. Don't forget that adding the deck boards themselves also stiffin things up so you dont need to go over the top.
I personally screw, rather than nail, everything as it is also tighter and I hate the creeking of nails as weight is applied. Screws dont do that.
