Hello, i Have just purchased 2 x Date palms both about 180cm in height. i plan on putting them in a large ceramic containers and they will sit in the sunshine on my decking.

What soil is best to put in the containers and any tips on giving them the best possible start in their new 'home'?

Many thanks in advance

Chris

From what I've found with palms (I'm no real gardener to be fair..), they like well drained, but moist soil. So if your soil is clay-like, mix in some sharp/grit sand with it.

Water well after planting, and use some palm fertiliser (or whatever suitable fertiliser you can find) - they seem to love it. Then keep them watered little and often (don't soak them so the soil is boggy).

They should do well at this time of year and establish well :)
