reverse light vw sharan not working

hi,
i have vw sharan disal 1.9 R reg 1998 ,reverse light and top break light is not working.bulbs are all ok .break light botem on are working.
if open the plug direct both pin still not working.can any one have idea whats wrong.

probably where the wires go through the rubber boot in the hatch,top right as you open it,common problem where they fray,you need to carefully inspect each wire and then solder any you find that have broken.

It could also be that reversing light switch mounted in the gearbox has worn down, but as said check the wiring in the tailgate
