Hi

I hate seeing rad pipes. I'm luck at the moment all the rad pipes in my house are hidden under the floor.

However, I am about to fit 2 towel rads. One for the kitchen and one for the bathroom.

I've only seen towel rails in new builds, and of course its easy to hide behing plasterboard. But my walls are SOLID.

1) Can I chissel out a groove ?
2) Do I need to use plastic pipeing ?
3) Will the heat cause cracking to after I have filled it ?

1- Yes

2- No

3- No if your pipe is sleeved in corrugated conduit allowing expansion :)

The hot water pipe to my kitchen sink is buried in a solid brick wall. I got somebody with a stone cutting saw to make channel in the wall. Warning, this was a really filthy job. The pipe was lagged with standard polyethylene foam tubing and plastered in. It works perfectly.

It needn't have been, I use dust extraction on core drilling and wall chasing, no cleaning afterwards. I HATE cleaning. Next time tell him to get the proper equipment.

Strange.. I replied earlier to say thank you and its not there !

I must have done something wrong.

Anyway, thank you all for your comments. Quite simply it would seem I have 2 options.

1. use plastic pipe
2. use plastic trunking with normal copper pipe

Do the main DIY stores sell this cover for copper piping ? I know that in the past I have brought similar stuff to house electrical wires (I am doing that as we speak !)

Plastic pipes would need to be sleeved as well.

Corrugated conduit is available from DIY stores & electrical wholesalers.
