Hello everyone,

I just want some advice, is there anyone who has come across Red Shale used as foundations to a building. My home has been built on Red Shale, which has not really caused any structural problems, although a lot of my neighbours have had to dig their floors out to remove the shale, as it has given off a gas which expanded breaking up their floors. My question and problem is, does this gas cause any underlying health problems.
Would anybody know? or point me in the right direction to try to find out

Thank you

Mrs Wrighting

Browse for 'red ash' or 'sulphate attack'.

Red shale is a by product of mining where the burnt spoil from the coal pits is used for in-fill or hard core.
