does any one know how to wire a double pole pull cord where you have one twin and earth coming from the light and on going to the fan ( twin and earth) :(

Connect both CPCs together in the earth terminal (these are bare copper and should be sleeved in green/yellow). The brown and blue (or red and black with old colour wiring) from the supply cable will need to go in supply L and N respectively. The brown and blue (or red ands black) of the outgoing cable to the fan will want to go in load L and N respectively.

If you're still struggling then please post a photo of the wiring.

i don't happen to have a photo but the terminals i have are l1 l2 l3 l4, l1 being common

There is no common in a two-pole switch.

Just use your multimeter to establish which pairs of terminals are which.

It would make sense if L1 connected to L3, and L2 to L4, but you will need to check the instructions (which presumably were supplied with the switch) to be sure. I would normally only expect to see such markings on an intermediate switch, not on a double pole.

It sounds like a Crabtree double pole pull switch.

One side of the switch will have something like IN or FEED printed on it.
Put the live and neutral wires of the supply cable into the terminals. Either way round.

At the other side of the switch something like OUT or LOAD will be printed on it. Connect the fan cable to the these terminals, but so both lives are opposite each other; and both neutrals are opposite each other.
In other words so live and neutral won't get crossed over when the switch is activated.

Join the two earths in the earth block.

Is it safe to assume that the " one twin and earth coming from the light " is not a switch cable?
