Hot Cup = Heat Stain (in Ducal Top) = Dog House

..so I didn't think, etc.

Is there a trick to get the heat stain out of the wood? This is below the varnish finish - so doesnt seem obvious to me at the mo.

Can anyone advise?

not sure what you mean by 'ducal' but i do know a way of getting heat rings out of varnished or french polished wood.

mix some cigar ash with water to a thick paste and smear it on the ring, it works a bit like a stain - will make it almost invisible. then if the polish is damaged use a little wax just over the affected part, let it dry a bit and then polish it. the ash must be from a cigar - ive only tried it with fat cigars - cigarette ash doesn't work.

Please see below for the degree of <ahem> success I had with the cigar ash and (olive) oil approach. These photos were taken after the application. The improvement is unfortunately nothing.

I would be grateful for any further suggestions. I suspect the varnish layer is prevent the stain having any effect - but perhaps my application technique is not suitable? Any ideas welcome

David P - Ducal is(was) a furniture range manufactured in Andover, before they went bust, that is. Style pretty much as the photos, as I recall - apart from the heat stain that is.

The coaster near to the stain is the one I *should* have used
