I have installed a ryobi door closer for a bathroom door. Unknowingly this particular model has an automatic lock which engages once the door is opened greater than 85 degrees. This is negating the purpose of the door closer. Is there a method to disengage the locking mechanism?

I would take a guess and say you've bought the wrong one not knowing theres 2 types. I know in the commercial shop doors with the overhead concealled door closers this is the case with 90 degree hold open and non-hold open types.
