Hi Folks,

does anyone know the size of the guide bush supplied with a Black & Decker KW800E router. My router is at a mates house and I can't find the manual (managed to download one from B&D but it's in SLOVENČINA)

Thanks.

Big-all THANKS,

you're right unfortunately the handbook doesn't state the size of the guide. Does anyone know if they are a standard size or is that too much to hope for?

Thanks

Going to be fitting a kitchen worktop, got the router and all the bits (but not here) need to get a jig tomorrow & just wanted to check that the guide would fit the jig.

Cheers

well thats why i asked
you need a 1/2" router idealy 1600w plus

Thought I'd manage it in 2 passes... (3 if you count the jigsaw..)

make one (shallow) pass with the router then trim the excess worktop off with a jigsaw by sawing midway along the (routed) cut line and then just route off the excess part of the cut line??

its a 1/4" router you cant [easily]get worktop cutters for a 1/4 router
you need cutters with 50mm cutting edge what cutters have you got!!

even with an accurate jigsaw 5mm from the cut line is taking a risk
with a 800w router you are still talking 5 or 6 passes [maximum half shaft 4mm] but only 5mm so 8mm deep

eehhhhhh

don't know what cutter's I've got cos all the kit's at my mates house (think I've got a cutter that's got a cutting edge about 30mm long (not long enough - w/top is 38mm)).

Also pretty sure that there was a second (larger) collet (?) in the kit when I got it - need to check up on what I've got before going any further methinks.

If I can get a cutter what did you think about my 2 pass thoery - would my puny 800w router be up to the job?

Thanks again for all your help.

F

you dont have the correct cutters you need worktop cutters
your second collet will be 8mm

you need a minimum off the worktop depth to do a final pass
a specific worktop cutter will manage 1.5 to 2.5 joins
using a 1/4" worktop cutter [if you can find one ] will wear out 2xfaster due to 2xthe cuts over a 1/2 the cutter shank

Hi,

to anyone else reading this post THANKS Big-all.

After taking on-board your advice I hired a router & jig - I think I can safely say with hindsight it was well worth hiring - there's no way my puny 800W B&D would have coped.

Thanks again for your help.

you would have got the same advice from any one off the several dozen chippies fitters or builders on this forum :D :D lol

thanks for the feedback we all appreciate it ;)
