Shower: Triton Bermuda.

I was having a shower when the shower just stopped!!

There is no power light showing and no pressure light working at all.

We have never had any problems with the shower before and would welcome any advice as to what the problem may be.

We have a combi boiler.

have a look at your mains electric board, the shower may have tripped the breaker.

has the pullcord got a neon light ? is it lit ?
or you'll have to check with a multi meter if you have power to the pullcord then power to shower.
more likely the pullcord faulty if comsumer board ok..

Pullcord has a light which is working, however, when I pull the cord to the off position, the light remains on.

Surely,this cannot be correct!!!

i would take the pullcord apart and check the wiring/switch for burnt wires and bad connection may need a new pullcord.

Probably no supply reaching the works inside.

It's not unusual for things to go from working to not working with no intermediate stages.

We have a combi boiler.
Irrelevant - the shower isn't fed by this.

Pullcord has a light which is working,
So power is getting at least as far as the switch.

No it's not, but it's not unheard of for people to wire them up the wrong way round - they still work. Did the light always stay on?

I've checked he pullcord for damage and found nothing,it all seems okay.
So has it not occurred to you to follow the trail and check inside the shower?

I've checked inside the shower and found nothing untoward. All electrics are connected!!!

All may be connected, BUT is it live? Check with a multi meter. If no power = Faulty switch .If power = dead shower.

You need to take the cover off the shower and use a safe voltage measuring instrument to confirm the presence/absence of mains voltage.
Don't use a neon screwdriver since it will not confirm whether the neutral is present/intact. If you have full mains voltage then the shower is faulty.

Your shower switch sounds like is is wired back to front with incoming mains on the load side of the switch which would permanent illuminate the neon. (or the switch contacts are welded together sugesting a past short circuit condition when the switch was turned on)

Three additional notes:
- You are working in a potentially wet environment. Make sure everything on and around the shower (including bath/shower tray) are dry.
- With the shower cover removed you will be exposed to potentially high fault currents (possibly a 40/50amp MCB)
- If you are not reasonably confident and knowledgeable with electrics than please don't attempt this job yourself.
