I'm looking into stripping my wooden skirting boards and window frames in my two bed flat. There seems to be about five coats of a gloss paint which has been done messily. I want to repaint it in a satin finish. I've read about heat guns etc but it seems such a tedious task. If it was just the flat surfaces it wouldn't be such a hassle but there are loads of grooves and little fancy trenches everywhere which would be pretty awkward to get paint out of. Is there an easy way to do this? If I were to get someone to to it who would I ask?

Skirtings may well be easier to remove and replace with new.

There are a few options for removing paint :-

Heat gun as you say but must be kept well away from glass and curtains, carpets etc.

Chemical stripping with a product such as nitromors and there are now products that you paste on, wrap, leave for x amount of hours and then peel off.

You can also use a belt sander with a very heavy duty paper.

Each method has pro's and cons and its a tedious job which ever way you choose.

Have a google for Paint Stripping poultice  for the fiddly bits
