recently changed 3 way valve as had no hot water. this corrected problem. after returning from a weeks holiday the water & heating won`t work. When I turn the hot tap on or heating on, the boiler is clicking as if its trying to egnite, if i remove front panel and loosen screws air gets behind steel plate and flame egnites, returning water and heating. obviously this is not how the boiler should run, any ideas ????

Yep, it needs a service. DO NOT run it with the case loose. How old is it?

recently been serviced by british gas. thats how i new about valve.
i`ve lived in the property 5 years, so could be 7 or 8 years old ??

What I meant was it needs a proper service.

It's standard set of symptoms. It might need a new part, but most often not.

Sounds like a problem with Air Pressure Switch, venturi, ignition or air inlet duct/flue. This is all Corgi stuff, so you'll have to try to find a competent engineer. You could argue that it's something that could have been caused by BG "service", through negligence of some sort, but difficult to prove.

The reality is that british Gas only gave it a safety check!

You could argue that they should have noticed from the flame picture that it needed a "proper" service.

BG gives safety checks!

Independent Registered Gas Engineers give a proper service!
