New house occupier, boiler set to 1 bar lockout light keeps appearing.
The boiler doesn't light up, and the DHW pump doesn't appear to be running. Is the pump likely to be defective??

You may need to spin the pump to free it if the boiler has not been used for a while.

Failure to ignite is at the simplest due to no gas. If the gas has been off for a long time you may need to cook on the gas cooker a bit and then reset the boiler a few times to get the gas through.

If it still fails to light then you need a CORGI reg engineer to check the gas and ignition components. About £85 diagnostic fee plus any parts most of which could be around £100 each.

Boiler cut out trip re set, boiler now working.
What should the working pressure be it gets to around 2 bar, and fluctuates, after drawing water the pressure drops to around half a bar.

Does this mean the Safety pressure valve needs replacing.

On the relay, that operates the pump, should there be a yellow and blue wires, these were iniatially both off, after refitting them and re setting the trip the boiler worked.

Was this a result of resetting the trip or pushing in the safety trip? that the boiler oprated?

I cannot comment on the wiring.

It sounds as if the expansion vessel needs repressurising.

Bleed a little water out of the system until the pressure falls to 0.3 bar. Find the expansion vessel and the air inlet valve looking like a tyre valve. Use a car foot pump to pump it up to aboput 1.5 bar. When it heats up it should rise to about 1.8 Bar.

Yes Kev, the technically correct method it to open the system and pressurise the vessel to about 0.6 times the final cold operating pressure and then pressurise to the final operating pressure of about 1.5 Bar.

Unfortunately some DIyers seem to have problems doing this correctly and the method previously described will usually get it going quickly and successfully.

the lock out light has nothing to do with overheating or presure loss, it only goes to lockout for ignition problems. this could be anything, gas valve , control box or even a fluing problem.

I think he was refering to the thermal o/h stat inside!
