ive bought a couple of drayton t.r.v,s to fit onto my rads just wanted to know if i could put them on the return as one of the valves is hard to get to?

Normally they are design to go on the return and make sure you put it the right way up with the arrow to the flow direction,should be on your instruction.

Normally they would go on the flow NOT the return!! BUt these days most are bidirectional, indicated by an L shaped ting with arrows each end, so can go on either end.

Single pipe systems (rare) are different.

As Chris said but remember its sensing the room air temp not the rad temp so dont obscure with curtains etc.
