Boiler keeps cutting off

I have a conventional hot water system.My boiler lights up for about 2mins and then cuts off,it then wont relight until it cools down again,could it be an airlock in the system and if so where do I bleed it from.It is a Gloworm.Please help.Thanks.

It sounds as if the pump is not pumping!

See if the spindle is rotating.

If it is then the impeller may have come off the shaft. Close valves and remove pump head.

Have you checked that the header tank has water in it? About 100 mm deep!

Thanks Tony for your prompt reply,The pump sounds as though it is pumping but not sure,it is getting very hot though.

I have not checked the header tank but will do so.
 
You check the shaft by removing the big screw and expect some water may come out and use a smaller screwdriver to see if the shaft is rotating.

It may just have some air in it but I suspect its not turning!

Turning it may free it up!

If its seized its usually due to dirt in the system water.

Checked the header tank and found it was empty due to the ball valve being stuck.

Freed it and system is now working.
