Whats the difference between a Ring main and a Radial circuit?

ring goes out from CU to each socket outlet and returns back to CU. Radial goes from CU to first socket outlet and then onto next and so on, and ends at the last socket on circuit.

Electrically;
the size of area they can serve, the size of the fuse and the csa of the cables, how they are wired.
