Wanting to board out new extension loft for storage. It currently has 170mm high timbers and plan to put 100mm timbers at right angles in order to put back the 100mm loft insulation and then board over the top with 12mm thick plywood or would I need 18mm thick ?

How should I secure the 100mm timber to the 170mm timber ?

Use screws in the same way skew nail would be done but screwed instead of hammered ?

How often do I need to do this ?

Use 18mm panels, and you can screw 100mm timbers in at an angle, one either side of timber, at every joist crossed should be adequate.
