outside lights

im after a bit of direction in putting some outside lights in my back garden.ive got a power supply to my garage which runs adjacent with my garden.in my garage there is a rather old grey isolating box which supplys my sockets and lights.there is an fcu which is for the lights.should i come off the power supply for the lights outside to a weatherproof switch and then the lights will be wired up accordingly

Change your garage CU to one incorporating an RCD first... IEE reqs require this for outside equipment. They are only about £30 in total from City Electrical Factors for the whole unit including the 6 & 15amp MCB's then you can come off the 6amp side for your new outside lights

even though i have a relatively new c u inside my house does that still require me to fit a c u in my garage

If your garage is attached to your property then...no, if its detached then a seperate supply is only for ease...
