wiring for lights and dimmer

I have a two dimmers one for the dinning room and the other for the kitchen. The dimmer in the dinning room is for a single light. However the dimmer sits next to a light switch for the kitchen light. At which a second switch is actually in the kitchen for the same light. So I put the secon one on a dimmer. This was fine for 5 years. But now something seems to be wrong. I took readings with a volt meter and I\\\'m not reading current.?
