I have a cloakroom which currently has just a toilet and I am adding a handbasin. I am also moving the light switch and it will be within 60cm of the handbasin.

I do not want to put in a pull-cord (for aesthetic reasons).

As far as I am aware building regs do not force the use of a pull-cord around a handbasin but I want it to be safe.

Does anyone know where I can get an IP-rated non-pull-cord switch? Or whether a normal switch will suffice?

No regs about cloakroom switches, to require a pull cord you'd have to put a bath or shower in there!
Just use the best quality one you can, and if its metal faced make sure there is an earth connected and check earth continuity.

administrator - the real admin?

You will comply 100% with a normal switch in there.

You could get the MK flush fit kit for their masterseal range, and buy it in white (not the grey). Would still look sh1te in a domestic toilet though.

Thanks for that guys (or gals?).

real admin? I'm as real as it gets.

I knew that the building regs specify that only rooms with a bath or shower qualify as a "special situation" but I assumed this level of safety would also apply to cloakrooms.

Seems strange to me that a basin can give you wet hands and maybe produce some hot water vapour and yet it is OK to have a normal switch.

Oh well, I am happy as it saves me a bigger job. :D

Building Regs also say no accessories within 300m of sink (in kitchen, anyway)...

Securespark, could you supply link to building reg that shows distances that sockets etc have to be from sinks, I'd like to be able to quote this to customers who want sockets behind sinks.
Have searched BS7671 and part p and cant find anything statutory.
