Trying to install a new light fitting upstairs.
Removed old fitting, and installed new fitting.
Ceiling rose contains the following wires

4 red wires
3 black wire
1 black/red
4 green/yellow

All black wire connected together and to the new light. Neutral
One Black/red wire connected to the new light. LIVE
All green/yellow connected together.
All 4 red wires connected together

New unit is 12volt with a Toroidal transformer with 8 small 12v 20w bulbs.
When first connected the 2.5a fuse within the fitting blew immed the lights were switched on.

Reconnect normal two wire bulb to the two input wires this worked fine.

So why is the fuse blowing ?

try putting a plug on the transfromer with no lights see what happens, if it blows transformer is "not very well"

Ok
I reconnected everything and removed the bulbs.
Switched on and off removed and tested fuse. The fuse was still working.
Put one of the eight bulbs in, replaced the fuse.
Switched on great its working.
Switched off and back on now no light checked fuse the fuse has now blown.
So the light unit does work, but something is causing the fuse to blow.

looks like fuse is on secondary side, since it will run one lamp (1.6 A) but not two (3.2 A)

Basically the fuse is too small, thing is though if it is not on the secondary side you are in trouble, where did the light come from?

Sorry I seem to be confusing things.
I have connected the light unit as before and inserted one of eight bulbs into the light. It worked once only. Switching the light off and back blew the fuse.

no, i meant the light fitting where did you get it, was it brand new?

take it back, explain what happens, ask for another one.

you have also read the instructions?

I saw this before, brought unit back, got another one, no problems. Pricy light!

BR are you saying you had one too?
