Extension Sockets and Lighting

Currently building a single floor extension to my house. I have located an upstairs socket to tap into the mains ring.
Can I also run a fused spur from this \\\'tap\\\'to supply the lighting in the extension?

You only have one ring main in the building? That is BAD!

If you have more than one ring, and are tapping into the first floor ring to feed a ground floor room, that is also < ideal.

you want to supply lighting to the extension. You doubtless already have a ground-floor lighting circuit in your house. Is there a good reason why you don't want to supply the lights in your ground-floor extension from the same circuit as the other ground floor lights?
