Had above condensing combi fitted in June & all worked well in initial test with inbuilt clock. Since then had remote timer fitted, which doesn't seem to start anything - changed for new zero v one & still nothing. Yet all ok on inbuilt timer apart from 1 thing - after some time of heating boiler makes vibrating noise, which stops if you open the hot tap, and shuts down with A07 fault....failure to reignite.

Suspect the spark damaged PCB or recently fixed leak from carpet fitters nail have something to do with it. But why does it work ok on inbuilt timer & HW fine. Pressure is steady at 1.8 bar.

Need a fix b4 my new born comes home in a few days & not getting much joy from spark.

I have not encountered an "Arco 27" domestic combi boiler.

Can you give me the address and phone number of thre manufacturer's as shown on the manual.

I dont fully understand exactly what you are saying. I think that an electrician had fitted an external control but it does not work. If thats the case I am sure the electrician will not get paid as he has not done the job!

You also have a problem because the boiler apparently overheats on CH after its been on for a while. Why not call the CORGi registered installer back?

If it were only that clear. I have the electrician, who my wife already paid, coming back to fix what he's supposed to have delivered on. The problem with the boiler is one I'm happy to solve with a call on the gas fitter, but was concerned that the 2 things were inter-related & wanted to confront the elecrician with what damage (possibly) he may have caused before I get the gas fitter in (if indeed that is necessary).

Ariston make the boiler 01494 755600.

Thanks for your help.

That will be an Ariston ACO then.

These units are allegedly ultra reliable (according to the Ariston rep) and come with a five year guarantee.

The 5yr warranty is rather craftily renewed on a year by year basis, involving the owner sending proof of servicing off to Ariston. You must make up your own mind whether Ariston are being especially careful ....or hoping that a significant number of warranties will be unintentionally terminated by consumers not up to speed with the process.

My memory suggests that the Ariston ACO knocks out 24v so would need volt free controls fitted.

If I had a young child on the way I would call out Ariston service now and pay the price if it transpires it had been damaged. Assuming an RGI fitted it, of course.

If the electrician had damaged the boiler then I would be charging him for the Ariston service visit.

I quizzed Ariston over their thermostat connections on a new combi about 4 years ago, . It had ultra low voltage output.
They told me that the boiler was designed to withstand having mains sent up the thermostat wires, and also worked if connected to mains with reversed polarity. "Because people do that sort of thing"! Good design, that.

Here's a well thought thermostat design off the Ariston unvented cylinder range.

I think Ariston buy in these thermostats - the image is from the underside of the plastic housing that contains the user stat and the overheat stat.

The housing screws onto a flat plate that mounts onto the cylinder. Note how the small copper capillary lines from the phials are in very close proximity to the live terminals. No protection whatsoever - could be lethal.

Aristons response - "well it must have passed the safety checks so not a problem". They must be hopeing customers supplementary bonding is up to scratch. So much for the low voltage directive.
