Has anyone got any top tips for stripping insulation from the middle of a wire, as is recommended when adding a socket to a ring?

You need a pair of very sharp snips (side cutters).

With these snips, pinch the outer insulation off the side of the cable, and cut away, bit by bit, until you have exposed enough to fit the junction box.

However, you should really sleeve the cpc, so you then need to cut two pieces of sleeving to suit, and slit them with a stanley so you can slip them onto the conductor.

to a point i agree , but people often tend to over press with side cutters and snit the cable too short.
