Are there minimum safe distances and relevant heights specified for the gap between a gas cooker and the adjacent work tops and wall cupboards?

The answer to your question is, the cooker should be flush with the adjacent work surfaces, so as to prevent spillage when moving items from the cooker to your kitchen work tops, and the works top surfaces should
have aluminium edge trim(s) to prevent scorching to the
Formica surface on both sides where required.

All good free-standing cookers have adjustable feet, to enable you to level cooker and raise to the required height. And as far as 'minimum safe distances' this is not a safety hazard as most cookers fit snugly with in the allowed gap, but please ensure that any wall mounted units directly above the cooker, are of sufficient distance so as to prevent any risk of fire or scorching!

Thanks for taking the time to reply, most informative.
