Hi

I am thinking of replacing my ageing mechanical timeswitch for a newer digital programmer. At present the timeswitch operates on a single channel basis as I have a Gloworm boiler which heats the water & rads. I also have an immersion heater with a switch that can be used indepedantly of the boiler to heat water for instance in summer when no rad heating is required.

What I propose to do is replace the above with a dual channel programmer whereby the CH side would be connected to the boiler & the HW side connected to the immersion heater. This would allow me to use the immersion heater in summer on a timer programme without the house getting warm.

What do you guys think ? Is this feasible ?

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Regards

Scott

You can do that although there are a couple of minor complications.

Most 2 channel time switches have single pole contacts rated at 6amps. To directly switch your water heater you need double pole contacts rated at 15amps.

You could get over this by fitting a contactor near the water heater and switch the coil through the time switch. A bit more complicated for DIY but you come across as competent. It will add about £ 30.00 to your project

Thanks for your advice.

I think i'll look into it further - as the immersion is only used on a limited basis I may just opt for its own seperate timer as getting a dual channel requires some re-wiring too.

I'll get back to you if I need further assistance.

If anyone else wants to add anything further please feel free.

Thanks

Scott
