biro removal from paper

Does anyone have any tips on how to remove biro ink from paper? We have a rare book that was a gift, that has accidently got biro marks on one of the pages. Luckily not on the writing but we dont know if it can be removed.

Meths will wash it off but may leave a stain. Try on a sample first. I suppose you could buy Isopropyl Alcohol, Surgical Spirit or other uncoloured version that would be better. Make sure whatever you use doesn't affect the ink.
