i am fitting an extractor fan in a shower. Can i fit it directly above the shower, rather than somewhere else along the wall? This would be ideal as this is directly into the outside wall

Hello'

Is it a low voltage fan, or an 'in-line' shower fan/light that you have, or a standard 240v fan ???

It better to keep the fan away from above the shower as the steam will damage it over time ,
A 4 inch fan is for moving air not to remove steam
To remove steam a 6 inch wall mount fan with motorised lover would be reconmended.

Hello,
CKelly,
A 'motorised lover' icon_lol.gif , as you put it, seems a little over the top dont you think !!! icon_eek.gif

Bodger,
There are 'rules' about where you can fit different types of fan.
Zones, exist and equipment installed within these 'zones' are 'classed'.

Is there access (loftspace) above the ceiling ?

(CKelly, about these motorised lovers ??? icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif)

If you want to fit it over the shower cubicle it will have to be extra low voltage ie 12v.

Or fit the fan at the far end of the ducting so it is well clear of the bath / shower area.
