Hi all

I fitted a hydroflow scale fighter to my hot water pipe under my boiler as manufacturers stated. 6 months down the line, i noticed black bits coming out of my hot taps when i start to draw off hot water.

Now my boiler is noisy n sounds like a scaled up kettle. Gas bill cone up too...
I dropped the system, as i needed to re new upstairs pipe work cos the burk who fitted it only used 15mm pipe everywhere. noticed the water was clear in colour but towards the bottom of the rads downstairs, they was lots of black flakes? i added trvs to the system for the first time, apart from the hall because of the roomstat.

the system is 5 years old and has been maintained and treated with x100.

Just wondered what the best thing to do is?

I was thinking of... x400 it for 2 wks, mains flush all rads n pipework, x200 with x100 for treatment.

would that work?
What would sort the heat exchanger out?

Wonderful to have all these thoughts. Trouble is they willl not work much!

The scaling is most likely on the DHW side of the heat exchanger and that side needs suitable chemicals and you can only do this with a treatment pump.

I suspect you may need some professional help as X400 needs at least 4 weeks to have much effect on the system water. Heavy flakes really need to be removed by mechanical action and the X400 may have little effect on them anyway.

Hi, thanks for speedy reply mate. The boiler only sounds bad on heating, hot water is fine. so it cant be that. ... but how do you de scale the dhw side of the heat exchanger? ... I got a chemical pump.

2nite i injected sentinal deposit remover into the system but first closed all rad valves apart from the one closest to the boiler upstairs.

I'm gonna run it for an hour n flush it all out thoroughly... then add x 400 for a few weeks, then flush again, then add x100 and x200 together.

Been told this will work.

whats your opinion?

If the noise is on the CH then its scaling in the main HE and thats normally lime scale in spite of what most people will tell you.

The best chemical is sulphamic acid ( DS3 ) circulated at 70°C to get rid of lime scale. I would use two doses followed by citric acid ( DS40 ).

X400 always needs at least FOUR weeks!
