Hi Ryanna,
1. well you can screw them - drill small pilot holes and then screw using self tapping screws. The downside to this is that you obviously make holes in your door which is something I wouldn't want to do if there was another way.
2. You could try no more nails. (theres one by unibond which I think is called serious stuff which dries white which is good if you have a white door - its in a black tube and you can get it in Q & B) I'd just rough the door surface up a bit with sand paper where you intend to stick it first. You'd probably need to tape the knocker in place with duct tape while it dries.
3. How heavy is the knocker? You can get some very strong double sided tape now which may take the weight.
4. Get a doorbell instead!
