OK, I should have checked.
However, although many electric showers rely on solenoids to shut off the flow into the unit, you said "firmly", so I take that to mean that it has a manual valve.
Ergo, surely, it has a faulty cartridge; on this shower it seems to be called a "Stabiliser valve assembly", viz:
