checking water pressure?

How can I check the water pressure? is there a rule of thumb i can use or do i have to buy a magic gadget?

I think your local water supplier may do it for you at your house for free. Unless you need to know exacly they will probably keep records at a nearby point in the system over the year. Probably it will be in range 1-3 bar. If you are an unfortunate at the end of a supply line it can drop to zero in peak summer!
Of course you could use a vertical pipe based on 30 odd feet per bar or borrow a pressure gauge. But pressure will drop if you need a large flow and supply pipes are small.
