Fitting showers - check valves

Afternoon all,

I'm fitting an electric shower and a thermo mixer soon. Both are supplied with those horrible ring things that you're supposed to thread the shower hose through to prevent the shower head from resting in standing water. However, I can't stand those ring things for several reasons so want to do away with them on both showers.

So, can I fit a check valve instead? Or should it be a double check valve? What's the difference between a check valve and a double check valve? On the leccy shower there'll obviously only be one valve fitted to the cold supply.

On the mixer there will have to be two, one for the cold supply and one for the hot supply. Is that correct (it's a combi boiler so all water technically coming straight from the mains rather than via a tank).

The ring things are very useful for stopping a shower headset from smashing a £500 hole/dent/crask in your shower tray, so I think, and I don't mean this to be unkind, that you need to get over it.

Not really. Although if you don't fit a ring thing then you must fit a check calve, but it isn't supposed to be an alternative.
