It's a new installation; cooker and hob are both gas, so require power only for the ignition. Don't know the rating of the cooker hood - not delivered yet - but assume it'll need a 3A.

I'm anxious to avoid a mess of FCUs on the wall... Can I spur from the ring main to a SINGLE 3A FCU and power all three devices from that?

Whilst it would afford protection for all 3 devices, it doesn't follow the spirit of the regs, as it wont allow individual isolation of all 3 devices.

A far better solution would be a grid switch.

1 no. 6 way grid plate: http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/MKK3636.html
3 no. 20 amp DP: http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/MKK4896.html
2 no. 3g frames: http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/MKK3703.html
3 no. fuse ways: http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/MKK4890.html
1 no. back box: http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/MK0893.html

A far neater solution. Used in many newbuilds.

You COULD just have 3 DP switches supplying 3 13 amp sockets, this would also be fine, in effect you're creating 3 switched spurs from the ring main.

Thanks for the very prompt reply Crafty.

True, but I felt the regs are trying to assure least disruption in the event of needing to isolate one unit. In this case isolating all three units to service any one is trivial (it means lighting the oven/hob with a match temporarily).

Neat, yes. Trouble is we then end up giving over a sizeable portion of the tiled wall to switches/FCU - precisely the problem I'm trying to avoid. I know safety should always take precedence over aesthetics, but...

A neat row of switches and sockets along the wall above a worktop can look very neat. Keep all the bottoms in a perfectly straight line and tile straight, and it will look great. You can get metal grid fronts etc.

The grid switch could be halfed to 3 units rather than 6 if you use 3 20 amp switches to supply 3 13 amp sockets. As I said you're creating 3 switched spurs.
