Dear All

Have just investigated a blocked kitchen sink and as the waste consists of a vertical drop of 2ft followed by 3ft of horizontal pipe I think the problem lies with the lack of gradual fall.
But the pipework looks to be 45mm - 1 3/4inch. Is defrintely not 40mm.
Assuming I am right can you still get reducers down to 40mm for this
type of pipe.
I'm assuming it is due to it's age that it is this size

please put me right on this

thanks in advance :!:

You might not get any reducers in solvent weld so I would suggest a compression waste fitting, they are more tolerant of slightly different pipe sizes.

cheers dave

so what size compression fitting do I need - 40mm straight connector - to fit the new 40mm waste I'll be fitting?

Possibly, I suggest you take a piece of the old waste with you to check at plumbers merchants ;)

thanks for your help.
does the fact that there is 3ft of horizontal pipe fit with the recurring blockage?

No it doesn't

old age and a build up of scale is probably the cause.

A good plumber would heat the old pipe up gently and form a socket for the new.
