I replaced my old switch with a new one only because the previous owner had painted the switch to match the walls. I was meticulous with hooking up the new switch like the old one but when I flipped the breaker back on it did not work. I thought I might have gotten a bad switch so I put the old one back on and it didn't\\\' work. The breaker is okay because the other lights it controls work. What went wrong?

Not too familiar with US switches, but is there a chance you've got the wires in the wrong terminals?

Do US light switches have a neutral connection, or are they all hot?

Try posting in Electrics outside UK..
