Hi there, we have a UPVC front door that is a few years old now.

Recently it's felt more worn than usual.

If the handle is in it's default position there is free play/slack up adn down and a little you can pull in and out.

Due to the play once the door is unlocked you have to slam the handle a bit so the door will open.

It's as if the Square barrel had become a little round meaning it wasn't opening the door until through the handles travel a little.

Any ideas if it's a simple fix?

The slack is usually in the mechanism itself and not the handle. Open the door remove the handle and using a flat ended screwdriver turn the mech to see how far it turns until the door keep/hooks/rollers move. If its that thats slack then depending on the type of mechanism it's a diy fix 70-110 pounds to buy from a local locksmith. (take the old one with you to match up) If your lucky and it's the handle then 20 - 30 pounds.
