Hi All

Do I need planning permission for a dormer window.

Is this on the shed in the conservation area, or the roof of the penthouse in the city centre?

very good question. In my area a mix of semi-detach and detach houses. Semis are having dormer windows of all sizes so it can't be conservation area. One being built at back of me covering almost full width of roof on a semi. The area has become a jungle of over sized developments and a jungle of dormers. I don't know how council can allow this. My neighbour has had his dormer window built last year. The council didn't allow him to have his way. Now he is planning to extend it to maximum.

Are you saying the council has rejected his retrospective application, yet he is now increasing the size of the dormer?

Probably now falls within permitted where it didn't before.

I know somebody that tried for years - 3 or 4 planning applications and at least a couple of appeals - to get a conservatory on his large detached house. Thousands of squids on fees all to no avail. Then, presto, a change in the law and he has just had it built.
