I was aiming to go for AICO hardwired items, but have seen Fire Angel Wifi smoke alarms that look quite good as a handset is included which can be located anywhere. Has anyone used these before?

wifi? how does that work then?

EDIT: I dont mean wifi itself, i mean wrt smoke alarms.

Im not sure but apparently each alarm sends a signal to a remote handset when activated.

I've got 3 at home, one of them is called toast-safe or something (basically burning the toast/cooking doesn't set it off)

The Wii-safe is pretty good, the handset/torch unit is very very loud and the light is very bright.

I've had mine about 2 years, and in that time we've had 2 false alarms, i.e middle of the night the handset goes crazy and starts making a racket and the lights on it flash, however on both occasions non of the 3 alarms were sounding - so it must have been interference.

Some people might say that a false alarm a year is too much, but for me personally the peace of mind and the sheer loudness of the handset when it does go off is worth it.

So, yes, I'd recommend them - I got mine from a famous orange diy store. I think it was about £40 for 3 alarms and one handset thing. I fancy that they go through batteries a bit quicker than your normal smoke alarm too, but they still last a year or so.

It sounds incredible but a standard smoke alarm would not wake 94% of children aged 6-15 in a house fire, because the sound fails to wake them*.
That does indeed sound incredible. I had a false alarm from my smoke detector last week and even my girlfriend (who is half deaf and the heaviest sleeper known to man) woke up.

Not saying it's not a good idea though.

Cheers thats interesting. Would save cost on sparki installing AICO items I guess and seem a bit cheaper also. Where did you locate your alarms?

Sorry mate I should of been clearer, I meant what rooms did you locate them in your house?

Hi Chillout.

I've got one upstairs in the hallway, one downstairs in the hallway and one in the kitchen.

I would have got one of the carbon monoxide ones too, but I already have one near the boiler (and I would hear than anyway - it's really really loud)

I must be paranoid though (since having the kids) because I've got three wired fire alarms too in the same locations!
My thinking being that if there is a fire, they should all go off, but even if one system fails the other is unlikely to do so at the same time.

Good luck with them

Do you have escape ladders upstairs, and do you carry out practice evacuations in the dark?

You're keeping duracell in business anyway.
