I have just bought a two bedroom 2nd floor flat that currently has a warm air heating sytem and hot water tank. I am going to strip them out and have a combi sytem installed. The only real location for the combi boiler is pretty much central in the flat where the current warm air heater is. The flue currently discharges through the pitched roof, and is where I expect the new flue will discharge. I can fit all the rads and pipework myself however just need somebody to connect the gas to the boiler and fit the flue through the roof, does anybody have a rough idea of how much this will cost??? I will also be supplying the boiler myself.

It'll cost some muggins their GSR liscence

Can I ask...

Why are you removing the Warm Air Unit?

They are brilliant!

Hot Air in Winter, Cold Air in Summer! - ACE!

i went to the shops the other day, bought some tuna, some cucumber, some lettuce and tomatoes, took it to the cafe down the road and asked them to make my sandwich, they kindly told me to f^*k off.

think you may struggle to find someone to carry out a decent job seeing as you may be trying to save cost(understandable) but giving the impresstion you want to pay out precious little.

well I have asthma and I know they're not the best for that. Also it takes up a fair bit of room along with the hot water tank and if I get rid of this I'll have a few more options with the layout of the living space.

I just don't see the point of paying for the labour that I can do myself. I done an apprenticeship in gas fitting when I left school so I can do all the basics but obviously not corgi registered so can't carry out the gas connections or flue installation. It's only like having a boiler replacement really....

Except it's not like a boiler change. You've stripped away any conceivable financial interest that'll make the job worthwhile and no doubt would wish to hold anyone mug enough to a price you get here.

You claim to have all the necessary DIY skills to do just that, so your enquiry is only about money. By all means do the whole thing yourself but don't expect a rush to take up your scraps - it's not what we're in the trade for.

£1200 labour to fit the boiler on the wall fit flue aslong as every pipe is in the room. and you do not work on any gas pipe or fittings. also i do not fix your leaks.?

Tibbot to be fair I think this would be an nice little earner to finsh the week on, to earn a few hundred quid on a job that will probably take less than a day??? I'm not trying to rip anybody off but lets face it why pay for the parts of the job you can do yourself, I know for a fact there are plenty of engineers out there who are more than happy to rip unsuspecting customers off!!

Giggsy, don't take offence.

We just don't like people doing what your doing.

Good luck in finding someone. I'd even say, do you not speak to anyone from College? from your old course? or have you got a 'mate' who's GSR'd?

Meh. I wouldn't touch it with oot myself. But good luck.

I'm still in the trade but in a different sector now but still have a lot of contacts both professionally and personally who are qualified and it will inevitably be somebody I know who carries out the work. I was just looking for ball park figures so I would have a general idea to budget for costs of the refurb. I find it hard to believe so many engineers would be so quick to turn down a relatively simple 1 day job where they'd earn more than many do in a week.

If you know for a 'fact' then for the benefit of the forum could you list them?

Do the job yourself, find someone to do the bits you can't and even post here if you'd like any info on the non-gas bits. Just don't expect anything when all you ask about is price.

Again, if you 'know someone' then ballpark figures won't apply.

I know plenty of RGI's who wouldn't attempt to install a bathroom suite, because their finishing isn't half as good as a time-served plumbers.

I'm sure if you know a few RGI's yourself, the same must surely apply?

RGI's in general can AND do, do plumbing work, but more often than not, due to lack of 'experience' in fitting full suites, our finishing touch isn't as good as the dedicated Plumbers.

If I were you, I'd swing a deal with a 'friend' about fixing up his bathroom suite, depending on how good your own finish is.

None of my RGI friends would entertain you for as long as I have today to be honest. You'd probably be told to make good use of the Fire Exit.

But as I've said, good luck.

Sorry didn't realise cost was such a voodoo area here, but then again £1,200 for a job than won't even take a full day I'm not surprised!! I'm at half that cost a self employed gas fitter would quite easily cover all there over heads and make a comfortable proffit if they were to do a job like this per day!!
