I wonder if any of you remember the days before disposable diapers?

With the old type Terry Toweling nappy, you not only had to change them, but then rinse them under the outside tap, leave them soaking in an enamel bucket, then boil them for two hours in the 'copper'. Then came the ordeal of hanging them out on the washing line (after putting them through the mangle) and making sure that they they were cleaner, whiter and brighter that all the neighbours' nappies.

Monday morning was always the traditional weekly wash day. There was always an 'unwritten law' that smelly bonfires shouln't be lit on that day......

I have fond memories of my first twin-tub washing machine, purchased second-hand, for seventeen shillings and sixpence.

You can still get them, my misses didnt fancy scraping them off into the pan with the butter knife though, some people eh?!

I trust that you have more than one butter knife, dear?

One advantage of Terry nappies is they seldom end up in the dust bins "as removed " on a hot summer's day to perfume the local area with warm poo smells.

If they are only wet they are good for removing paint, as they can be moulded into shape.
