Hi all,
I have installed a LED lightrope in the garden it is plugged directly into a 13amp socket which has difficult access, how can I install an inline weatherproof switch into the power feed cable and where would I get one?
its is 3 core 1.5mm twin and earth
thanks all

Where is the socket with the difficult access located inside or outside the house?
Is it a permanent feature?
How is the cable run across the garden and how is it protected?
Is the cable steel wire armoured?
Is this circuit additionally protected by an RCD?

Not sure whether this would require notification - possibly would depend on whether it is a permanent fixture.

This might be one option:

If it is permanent it might be best to get an electrician in to assist you.

the socket is a double RCD protected waterproof one inside a fixed garden bar cupboard at the back so I have to get on my knees to use it (not practical) the power supply is steel wired armoured cable taken from the house (part p installed)

the LED rope light has a moulded 13amp plug with 1.5 metres of 3 core cable attached before the LED rope light starts so I need to fit an inline waterproof switch to make turning the light on easier ;)

yes out of the elements!
and I do not want to cut into the armoured cable, just into the 3 core cable from the plug, the other socket has a fridge plugged into it so that needs permanent power

'Alarm' Thanks for no help on this DIY help forum answering my question with a derogatory question doesnt help anyone but your ego, now can any 'nice people' pass advice on this subject please
thankyou

:D

You got help.
Then said "how do you wire this?"

Thats another kettle of fish, i`m not going to be responsible for you going bang when its wet.

Simple really.

The switches are what you were looking for in your original post.
So I did exactly what you asked.

Pretty sure others will look and see who did who a favour here.

Only on telling you how to do "inline" on a IP switch.
Something my 14 yr old could do anyway.

Can I not reply to a slight insult?

your 14 year old is a qualified electrician now! cool suppose you taught them how to do that job!

:D

You will need to ensure that the cable connected through the cut outs are water tight and come up and out from the bottom of the switch. Some waterproof switch manufacturers sell separate watertight connectors. Better to buy the best quality waterproof switch you can afford.

You would use the appropriate cable from the plug to the switch and wire as per normal switch where there is a requirement for both live and neutral at the lamp end.
