Been away for a few days so only just seen this thread.

When the hell are you lot going to grow up and respect ALL the people who fought to give you the freedom to write the crap half of you write on here?

This man may not have flown over enemy territory or fought on the beaches but he played a vital part in this country winning the battle. Without the ground crews, the back room staff, the telegraphists and every other type of assistance rendered to the fighting troops you would probably be speaking a different language than you do now. Ok, maybe the word 'Hero' is bandied about a bit too much, but as SecureSpark says, "Everyone who took part in the war had guts determination and bravery in spades."
Something which is sadly lacking, along with moral fibre, in the people of this land today.

Once, just once! why the hell can't you agree to honour the memory of our forefathers who 'All gave some and some gave all.'

But I suppose thats just me being stupid to think you could all care about something that gave you your freedom and be united as a group for once.

I agree with you Conny.

My point was that not everyone was a 'hero'. I suppose it depends on your definition of the word, and I admit it is not something that can be defined precisely.

Those who were awarded the Victoria Cross were no doubt heroes. Those who directly put their lives on the line to help their mates probably were, like the padre who went out into no man's land in the First World War to comfort dying soldiers.

Someone like this man (and my father) who no doubt worked very hard and who were in constant danger of attack deserve great respect but, I'm sure, would not expect others to see them as 'heroes'.

The word is over-used and, because of that, we run the risk of it becoming devalued.

Does that include me also? I spent a year on 617 Sqdn albeit in the early 70's and the Lanc's had been replaced with Vulcans.

I bought a poppy and wore it with pride..

I only bought one but the other half bought two ..a poppy and and poppy pin on badge...

it is still on my coat..


Just for the record I admire and respect all those that fought for what we have today............

Also just for the record I bought 3 poppys.
One for each of my coats and a wrist band.
Still got poppy's in each coat and will continue to wear the wrist band until I buy a new one next year.

Like you B&L I respect everyone that went through those terrible days for our benefit.

I bought 2.

I wore one for the Remembrance Service, the other was for general wear.

I still have them.

If they survive till next year, I will still give the Poppy Lady that knocks on the door £2.

Just out of interest, at first I couldn't find anyone selling poppies when I went into our local town:
Boots - no
Sainsbury's - no

Deplorable.

I later found them being sold in my Doctor's surgery.

I wore mine until yesterday and then disposed of it.

Sainburys Yes!! When I got home Mrs Pred had lost hers and wanted mine.
