Well, if someone asks "am I predicated against other races", the answer is yes.

But that's only because the real question should be "am I prejudiced against other cultures", but no one asks that question, academics only ever see racism.

Many other cultures are inferior to ours, the PC brigade would see people hung for saying that, but it is true. Many people recognise this and mix this with race (which is only an identifier not a cause), this problem isnt helped by an academic community that is predominantly pro multicultural, and intermixes race and culture, they think if you hate a culture you hate the race.

Different, I would agree. But how can you claim that it's inferior?

Surely, that is the same as saying our culture is superior to other cultures.

What can we do about this and other examples of barbarism in third world countries?

Well, I think we have a very effective weapon at our disposal and it would cost us nothing, indeed quite the opposite.

Stop all foreign aid to such countries until they can drag themselves into the 21st century.

Of course I haven't run away.
Of course FGM is wrong, but it doesn't make the whole culture inferior, just different.
There are many western practices that we disagree with ,but we have no moral position to oppose or try to stop it.
Similarly there are many other countrys' practices that we disagree with, but to highlight a couple here and there and use that to try to justify the superiority of our culture is mind boggling at the least.

Similarly, we have practices that other countries disagree with, but it doesn't make their culture superior, just different.
It's simply and implicitly your prejudice that makes you think our culture is superior.
It's not it's just different.
I didn't and won't bother replying simply because your highlighting a few practices that are still being practised in some countries, as well as ours, which are abhorent. That doesn't holistically make the culture wrong, inferior, or any less respectful, just one or two practices, that you've higlighted, that are not in the same culture. Moreover, you've conveniently highlighted practices that take place in the third world. It's like saying our culture is superior to South American Indians. It's not it's more technically advanced, but that doesn't make it superior.

I agree and it's a subject I have broach here before.

The big difference between Western cultures is that although we are far from perfect, at least we are trying to make an effort towards being more civilised. You have to add into the sordid Western mix that politics muddies the ultimate goal, but the will of the people in a democracy is something to be very proud of. Any other country that doesn’t have this ethos, to my mind, makes them inferior ‘Flat Earthers’.

As one great man said about America, for example, “there is nothing wrong with America which cannot be put right with what’s right about America”. The leap from barbaric and primitive practices and beliefs to a civilised country is always going to be fraught with growing pains. We are not there yet but, again, for all our short-comings at least we are making the effort. I do not want our culture infected or diluted by out-dated, barbaric, sexist, homophobic and cruel practices. If that makes me wrong then I don’t want to be right.
